Annual Checks

Most of the parts of your vessel are solid and sturdy enough to run trouble-free for a year.

As far as your annual checks are concerned, having the engine and sail drive serviced, getting the deck and hull cleaned and polished, and getting the tuning done on the rigging are all tasks that are very important.

The other parts that need annual checking include small components, such as the seacock, steering gear, and bolts on different parts of the boat.

More Common Service Tasks

For the more delicate or easily dirtied components of the yacht, more regular checks and service is required.

This includes, for example, the wooden parts of the boat, especially the cabin, windows, doors, and deck. The polish or cleaning, whichever is required, should be done at least every four months, to protect from harm.

The hull of the yacht, which is the metal bottom part that remains under the water, should also be cleaned every four months. The need for this service can vary depending on how often you use the boat.

Finally, since many parts of the yacht are made of stainless steel, it is important that they are polished regularly too. Most manufacturers recommend this process twice a year.

Fuel Contamination On Yachts

Many yachts that use diesel as fuel can become prone to contamination from the accumulation of algae. This is because the substance is attracted to the gases in the diesel.

If left as it is for too long, algae will grow in and around the fuel tank, and could even spoil your engine and the fuel lines.
